Diablo Trail 50K - Sunday, March 22, 2009

Runner Info

Busses from the finish area at Castle Rock Park in Walnut Creek will depart promptly at 6:30 am.  The race will begin at Round Valley Regional Preserve in Brentwood at 8:00 am.

 Transportation and Parking
Drive to the finish area at Castle Rock Park in Walnut Creek; a bus will provide transportation to the start at Round Valley in Brentwood.  Bus departs at 6:30 am.  Take whatever you need on the bus; we will transport items from the starting area back to the finish line at Castle Rock Park.  If you drive to the start, please make arrangements to get a ride back to Round Valley Regional Preserve in Brentwood. Overnight parking is not recommended. 

Directions to Castle Rock Park in Walnut Creek: Exit I-680 on Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek and drive east. After about three miles turn right on Walnut Avenue (NOT Walnut Boulevard!). After about two miles you will reach a traffic circle.  Veer right onto Oak Grove Road which becomes Castle Rock Road and follow it approximately one mile to the Orchard Staging Area on the right.  You will see our sign at the entrance to the Orchard Staging Area.  This is a big dirt parking area.

Directions to Round Valley Regional Preserve in Brentwood:  From HWY 680, take the Ygnacio Valley Road exit and head east.  Turn right onto Clayton Rd.  Clayton Rd. becomes Marsh Creek Rd.  Continue on Marsh Creek Rd and just past Deer Valley Road is Round Valley Regional Preserve on your right hand side.

Check-In
All runners must check in at the start in Brentwood between 7:00 and 7:45 am.

Time Limit & Cutoff Times
Runners must exit the Old Finley Road aid station by 1:00 pm.  Transportation to the finish will be provided for runners not making this cut-off. Runners must complete the course by 6:00 pm (10 hours after the 8:00 am start). 

Drop Bags
We will transport items from the start to the finish area.  Drop bags along the trail will not be available.

Crew Access
Aside from the Start and Finish, crew access on the course is at the Morgan Territory Road aid station and Mount Diablo State Park: Rock City and Macedo Ranch.

Weather
Average temperatures for March are mid 50s with lows around 35 and highs at 75.  Rain is a possibility.  Be prepared and carry at least two bottles of water.

We will have 5 aid stations on the course with varying types of fluids and fuels available.  See aid stations table with service, bathroom and crew access.

Trail Notes
            Gates:  When you go through a gate, close it after yourself.
            Garbage: Absolutely no littering!  Please respect the trail.

            Portable Toilets:  at the start, at Rock City, Macedo Ranch and at the finish.
            Course Markings:  Pink ribbon and flour arrows are used to mark the course. 
            Participants are encouraged to purchase the Diablo Trail map.  A simple map
            will be provided.
           
Backpackers/Horses: Use courtesy and common sense when approaching either backpackers and/or horses.  Move to the side of the trail and allow the horses to pass.  Do not run past or startle them in any way.  When in doubt, ask the rider what to do. 

Sweep Runners
There will be sweep runners following the last official runner.  These runners will provide assistance if problems arise or if a runner is injured, and remove trail markings.

Awards, Lunch and Shower
Age group awards will be available at the completion of your run.  Also enjoy lunch and a hot shower at Castle Rock Park’s finish line.  The showers are equipped with soap and shampoo dispensers.  All you need to bring is a towel.

T-Shirts: Each participant will receive a performance event t-shirt.

Rides Back to the Start are not provided.
