Diablo Trails Challenge
50K / Half Marathon / 10K / 5K
Saturday, March 20, 2010
Save Mount Diablo has partnered
with Brazen racing to bring you a new event. The Diablo Trails
Challenge has distances suitable for everyone from those hitting the
trail for the first time to experienced ultra-runners. A portion of
all entry fees will go to Save Mount Diablo to help them continue
preserving open space and building trails for all of us to enjoy.
All runners receive medals, T-shirts and BBQ lunch after the race.
The 5K, 10K and Half Marathon
will all begin and end at Castle Rock Park in Walnut Creek. The 50K
is a point to point run and will begin at Round Valley Regional
Preserve, following the Diablo Trail through Morgan Territory
Regional Preserve, Mount Diablo State Park and finishing in Castle
Rock Park. All races will be professionally timed. Saturday, March
20, 8 am for 50K and 9 am for other races. Cost from $33 to $95
depending on distance.
Course
50K Course
will travel through Round Valley, Morgan Territory, Mount Diablo State
Park and Shell Ridge Open Space and finish at Castle Rock Park (Diablo
Foothills Regional Park) in Walnut Creek. The course is challenging
(steep climbs, descents and creek crossings), well marked, and will
feature five aid stations and support vehicles. Runners are encouraged
to buy the Diablo Trail map from Save Mount Diablo to get familiar with
the course (also includes an elevation profile for the Diablo Trail)
All other race
courses are from Castle Rock Park in Walnut Creek, climbing the slopes
of Mount Diablo.
Date/Time/Place
March 20, 2010. 50K Run
starts at 8:00 am. Drive to the finish area at Castle Rock Park in
Walnut Creek; a bus will provide transportation to the start at Round
Valley in Brentwood. Bus Departs at 6:30 am.
All other races start and finish at Castle Rock Park starting at 9 am.
Prizes
All registrants will receive a medal, T-shirt, and lunch
after the race.
Thanks
to all participants, volunteers, Park Rangers, HAM radio volunteers,
Contra Costa Sherriff's Search and Rescue Teams and sponsors for making
the run in 2009 a fabulous event. 48 runners finished the course on a
beautiful sunny Sunday. Rain had made the trail soft (we did get
dirty on Diablo!) and the summit of the Mountain had just a dusting of
snow. The hills were luscious green showing off the Diablo area
and the lands Save Mount Diablo has helped to preserve.
"Everything about the event was terrific, and I can't think of anything
that could be improved.
Folks in the bay area are
fortunate to have a new fine ultra event and more important, a beautiful
mountain with loads of
open space."
