He bequeathed his images to the Oakland Museum of California for use to educate others about environmental preservation and restoration. In 2007, After the Storm: Bob Walker and the East Bay Regional Park District was released by Wilderness Press. The stunning pictorial, written by local author and documentary filmmaker Chris Beaver, contains a rare collection of some of Bob Walker's most beautiful and captivating images of parklands in the East Bay Regional Park District. Those images and others from the Walker slide collection now archived at the Oakland Museum of California are included in this new exhibit. Titled "In Our Own Backyard: A Celebration of East Bay Regional Parks," the exhibit has been curated by Chris Beaver. It will Provide a virtual tour through the Regional Parks' varied habitats, following the flow of creeks from Mt. Meet: MDSP Mitchell Canyon Staging Area south end of Mitchell Canyon Rd., Clayton. Carpool: Leader at Walnut Creek BART 8:15 am. Take a beautiful but strenuous hike to Mt Olympia, Eagle Peak, and Twin Peaks in Mt Diablo State Park. Pace will be moderate with frequent short stops for flower identification. Prepare for heat, ticks (wear light-colored clothing and long pants), and steep rocky trails. Return to trailhead approx 6pm. Rain cancels. Bring: lunch, lots of liquids, and high carbohydrate snacks; boots strongly recommended. Required for participation: a minimum of 2 liters of water. More is better. Time: 2 to 2.5 hours Start: Park headquarters, Sydney Flat Staging Area on Somersville Road, just past the first Ranger Booth in Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. ($5/car fee) Pittsburg’s hills are threatened by development. Join Troy Bristol, Save Mount Diablo’s Land Conservation Associate, on a hike that includes breathtaking views of the Los Medanos Hills, stories about Black Diamond Mines’ rich history, and discussion of SMD’s important East County Campaigns, including the James Donlon Road extension (Buchanan Bypass) and the Pittsburg Hillside Ordinance. The hike leads to the top of Lougher Ridge and exposes views of amazing landscapes threatened by development.
