Hiking on the Mountain

Please be aware that these hikes and walks to take place on often difficult mountain trails. Individuals with special needs should call at least two weeks in advance. For more information on State Park programs, call Mt Diablo State Park at (925) 837-0904, and for all other programs, call the event leader.

4-Days Diablo (Save Mount Diablo)
Wildlife, spring wildflowers and incredible diversity: SMD’s annual 4-day, 30 mile trip on the Diablo Trail from Walnut Creek to Brentwood, crossing 6 parks and 50,000 acres of open space.  Carry day packs while equipment is shuttled, and stroll into camp where wine, gourmet meals and evening lectured awaits you.  You won’t believe the beauty to be found, or how much you will learn, in your own backyard.  $850 per person, limited to 20 participants.

Moonlight on the Mountain
Save Mount Diablo will celebrate its 37th anniversary at its 7th annual Moonlight on the Mountain: an elegant dinner, auction and entertainment near China Wall, with the South slopes of Mount Diablo as the back drop.

Mount Diablo Challenge: Bike Challenge
Again this year Save mount Diablo will present the Mount Diablo Challenge: the 27th annual timed bike ride starting at the Athenian School in Danville going up Southgate Road to the summit of Mount Diablo.  Starting April 1st, register online, see www.savemountdiablo.org for details and registration forms.

MP #4 Mount Diablo State Park - Summit Road Junction Ranger Station, where North and South Gate Roads meet, Summit Road rises toward the peak.

MP #41 Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve - Sidney Flats, Park Headquarters, about a half mile into the preserve, Somersville Rd. south of Antioch.

MP #42 Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve - Somersville Townsite, end of Somersville Rd., south of Antioch.

MP #43 Contra Loma Regional Park - Frederickson Lane, off Lone Tree Way/Golf Course Rd., just before the turn to Contra Loma.

MP #44 Contra Loma Regional Park - Frederickson Lane, off Lone Tree Way/Golf Course Rd., to the end.

MP #50 Round Valley – Marsh Creek Road – 1.6 miles east of Deer Valley Road between Clayton and Brentwood.

MP # 51 Cowell Ranch Pioneer State Park – John Marsh House (no public access at present)

MP # 52 Cowell Ranch Pioneer State Park –intersection of Deer Valley and Briones Valley Roads (no public access at present)

MP # 60 – Los Vaqueros – Kellogg Watershed – intersection of Camino Diablo and Walnut, south of Brentwood.  $1 hiking fee.

MP # 61 – Los Vaqueros – Kellogg Creek Picnic Area – Walnut Blvd., 2.5 miles south of Camino Diablo.  $4-6 parking fee.

MP # 62 – Los Vaqueros Visitor Center – from the north, take Walnut Boulevard south into the watershed, all the way to the Visitor Center just below the dam.  $4-6 parking fee.

MP # 63 – Los Vaqueros Marina Staging Area – from the south, take Vasco Road from Livermore then turn left into the watershed.  Follow the road to the end, past the Marina.  $4-6 parking fee 

MP # 64 – Los Vaqueros County Line Staging Area -- from the south, take Vasco Road from Livermore then turn left into the watershed. The staging area is at the entrance gate.  $4-6 parking fee.

MP #71 -  Morgan Territory Regional Preserve – Finley Road, Riggs Canyon, north east of Blackhawk-Camino Tassajara,  limited unorganized parking one-half mile before the large white gate.

MP #72 – Morgan Territory Regional Preserve - Highland Ridge Trail, Morgan Territory Rd., approx. 1.5 miles north of the Main Parking Lot

MP #73 – Morgan Territory Regional Preserve - Main Parking Lot, on Morgan Territory Rd., 9.4 miles south of Marsh Creek Rd., 10.7 miles north of 1-580/N. Livermore exit.

MP #90 – Bethany Reservoir State Recreation Area - Christensen Rd. Northeast of Livermore, seven miles off I-580, at the Grant Line Rd. exit, east on Mountain House or Byron Hwy. West on Kelso, south on Bruns, then west.
