Since the founding of Save Mount Diablo in 1971, public lands on and around the mountain have increased from 6,788 acres to more than 90,000. But, this is only 50% of the mountain and its foothills! There is still much work to be done. We are looking for dedicated individuals to help preserve even more of the natural lands by representing Save Mount Diablo at community events or at Trailheads. We will train you and give you materials and handouts. See full Volunteer Job Description.

Community Events
Can you spare three hours on a Saturday or Sunday to help?
Save Mount Diablo is present at many community events, like Earth Day at Mt. Diablo State Park and Heritage Days at Borges Ranch. With your help, we could be represented at more events, sharing with more people what Save Mount Diablo does to protect the natural lands here in our backyard.
Tabling at
trailheads
Can you spare three hours on a great hiking day to help?
We’ll be setting up information tables at selected trailheads. People who use these trails, whether hikers, bikers or equestrians, are already supporters of Mount Diablo, the Regional Parks, and Open Spaces surrounding the mountain.
Help Us Out in the Office!
Our small staff can use your help with some of the basics like
stuffing envelopes, filing, article & photo archiving, and copying.
We love company… Stuff an envelope. Save our mountain.
Save Mount Diablo leads fun and informative hikes on the Mountain, at all levels of intensity, in the Spring and Fall. This is a great way to meet new people who share an interest in Mount Diablo. Many participants share their knowledge of the diverse wildflowers, birds, trees and geological features of the Mountain. At the same time, hike leaders educate hike participants about new and potential additions to the State and Regional Parks, as well as regional planning issues. If you are an experienced hiker and would like to learn how to lead hikes, we’ll provide training. Call SMD at (925) 947-3535 or check the hike schedule for the next Hike Leader Workshop.
Become A Mount Diablo Advocate .... from the comfort of your home!
You can be one of the most influential people in the county, state and country! Use this page as a resource on a regular basis to find out what new issues have developed and to get updates on ongoing activities. Be proactive – write a letter or make a few phone calls. Why? Your efforts make a major difference in obtaining funds that will be used to expand Mount Diablo and surrounding regional parks and also to ensure smart development in the Tri-Valley area. Letters and phone calls are counted and used by our elected and appointed officials to gauge support or opposition to issues.
How to Do It
Writing: Mailed letters or faxes are given more weight than phone calls and e-mails. Letters simply need to state either support or opposition for funding or an issue. The more to the point, the better
Calling: When the receptionist answers, simply say you are calling to convey your opinion to the supervisor, assembly member, senator, etc. The receptionist will type your comments re: supporting or opposing an issue into a computer.
Use the list of phone numbers and addresses noted below to get your voice heard! Please send a copy to Save Mount Diablo, 1901 Olympic Blvd., Suite 220, Walnut Creek, CA 94596 or email smdinfo@savemountdiablo.org

2) Dont Let The State Forget Mt. Diablo or our parks. Please Write the Governor!
Nearly $4 billion in state bonds for park expansion have been approved in recent yearsdespite the budget deficityet only two parcels have been purchased for Mt. Diablo State Park since 199366-acre Turtle Rock Ranch and the Silva Ranch. Now its been revealed that the Governor is blocking any new state park additions because operating funds are scarce. Land can be held until the economy improves but if the state stops acquiring it, these properties may be lost forever. In addition we must compete for this funding statewide. Write Gov. Schwarznegger and ask for acquisition to be resumed, for land funding for Mt. Diablo State Park, & to increase funding for operations. Send copies of your letter to Acting State Parks Director Ruth Coleman and to our State legislators.
