CREW INFO—Vet Checks—Locations and Directions

Vet check point 1:  Curry Point, approximately 12.5 miles from the start

Directions from the start line:  Take Castle Rock Road north about 2 miles.  Just before the traffic circle go left onto North Gate Road  and continue, past the entrance station up the mountain.  Turn right at the junction with South Gate Road. Take South Gate Road for approximately 1 mile to Curry Point.

Vet check point 2 (one hour hold for 50’s, half hour hold for 25’s):  Juniper Campground, approximately 25 miles from the start (for 50’s)

Directions from the start line:  Take Castle Rock Road north about 2 miles.  Just before the traffic circle go left onto North Gate Road  and continue, past the entrance station up the mountain.  Turn left at the junction with South Gate Road.  Juniper Campground is approximately 2 miles from the junction.

Vet check point 3 (20 minute hold, emergency crew access only):  Diablo Ranch, approximately 12.5 miles from the finish 

Directions from the start line:  Take Castle Rock Road north about 2 miles.  Just before the traffic circle go left onto North Gate Road  and continue, past the entrance station up the mountain.  Diablo Ranch is off North Gate Road, approximately 9 miles from the entrance gate. 

Other crew access point:  Mitchell Canyon, approximately 18.5 miles from the finish

Directions from the start line:  Take Castle Rock Road north about 2 miles.  At the traffic circle go straight (ie first turn right) onto Oak Grove Rd.  Turn right at Ygnacio Valley Rd.  After about four miles, turn right at Clayton Rd.  After about one mile, turn right at Mitchell Canyon Rd.  Follow Mitchell Canyon Rd. into the holding area.

Save Mount Diablo will place trailers to transport horses that cannot continue the ride at Curry Point, Juniper Campground, and Diablo Ranch.
